Earth Science is an applied science course that introduces geology and other Earth sciences\u2014ecology, oceanography, atmospheric science, and astronomy\u2014with an emphasis on relevance to British Columbia and each student\u2019s region and interests<\/p>\n<p>If you like learning about our planet, this course will be an interesting way to obtain Grade 11 science-course credit toward graduation. If you are considering an earth science as an academic field, career, or a vocation, this course will also give you the basis for an informed decision.<\/p>\n<p>The British Columbia curriculum for <strong>Earth Science 11 (ESC11)<\/strong> is built around <strong>Five Big Ideas:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Earth Within The Solar System<\/li>\n<li>Plate Tectonic Theory<\/li>\n<li>Earth Materials<\/li>\n<li>Oceanography And The Hydrosphere<\/li>\n<li>Atmospheric Science And Climate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These Big Ideas are organized around 8 units of study within 3 Modules as outline here:<\/p>\n<p>First Assignment \u2013 an introduction to Earth Science Concepts<\/p>\n<h3>Module 1 \u2013 Earth Within the Solar System<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Introduction &#8211; Scientific Math Review<\/li>\n<li>Unit 1: Introduction to Astronomy, Stars and Galaxies<\/li>\n<li>Unit 2: Bodies of the Solar System<\/li>\n<li>Unit 3: Earth, Sun and Moon as a System<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Module 2 \u2013 Earth\u2019s Processes and Resources<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Unit 4: Plate Tectonics and Internal Processes of the Earth<\/li>\n<li>Unit 5: Surface Processes (Weathering and Erosion)<\/li>\n<li>Unit
