While studying these events, you will also be learning something of the skills necessary to interpret historical events &#8212; how to ensure historical information is accurate and relevant, how to develop historical empathy, and how to present clear, logical arguments based on a knowledge of the events. These skills will be helpful to you throughout life.<\/p>\n<p>To interpret these events, or in other words, to &#8220;think historically&#8221;, you will need to be able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Establish <em>historical significance<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Use <em>primary source evidence<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Identify <em>continuity and change<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Analyse <em>cause and consequence<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Take <em>historical perspectives<\/em>, and<\/li>\n<li>Understand the <em>ethical dimension <\/em>of historical interpretations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The three big ideas of the course include the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nationalist movements can unite people in common causes or lead to intense conflict between different groups.<\/li>\n<li>The rapid development and proliferation of communication and transportation technologies in the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century led to profound changes in personal and national identities.<\/li>\n<li>The breakdown of long-standing imperialist structures created new economic and political systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Module 1: Failure of Normalcy: The World After World War I<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Section 1: How We Discover Truth in History, Nationalism, and Imperialism<\/li>\n<li>Section 2: The World in 1919<\/li>\n<li>Section 3: Russia from Revolution to World War II<\/li>\n<li>Section 4: The USA in the 1920s and the 1930s<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Module 1 Exam\u00a0<\/strong>module tests are password protected &#8211; the password will be released to an approved test supervisor<\/p>\n<h3>Module 2: War in Mid-Century<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Section 1: Fractious Peace and World War II<\/li>\n<li>Section 2: International Affairs Leading up to World War II<\/li>\n<li>Section 3: The Course of World War II<\/li>\n<li>Section 4: Turmoil and Tragedy, 1933-1945<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Module 2 Exam<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Module 3: Uneasy Peace: Proxy Wars<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Section 1: Causes of the Cold War<\/li>\n<li>Section 2: The Cold War, The Berlin Blockade to the Cuban Missile Crisis<\/li>\n<li>Section 3: The Cold War: After the Cuban Missile Crisis to the Collapse of the Soviet Union<\/li>\n<li>Section 4: Internationalism Since 1945<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Module 3 Exam<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Module 4: The Winds of Change<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Section 1: East Asia: India, and China<\/li>\n<li>Section 2: Vietnam and Afghanistan<\/li>\n<li>Section 3: The Middle East: 1945 to 1991<\/li>\n<li>Section 4: Economic and Social Change in the Post-War World<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Module 4 Exam<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each of the modules consists of lessons, guided practice activities, discussions and section assignments . Be sure to work through all the lessons and lesson activities in a section before attempting the section assignment.<\/p>\n<h3>Course Evaluation<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In this course you will be marked on all section assignments and tests. A passing grade on section assignments and tests is 50% or higher. Your course grade is a combination of marks earned on the section assignments (70%) and tests (30%).<\/p>\n<h3>Assessment:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Assignments &#8211; 55%<\/li>\n<li>Projects &#8211;
