You\u2019ll explore why societies change, why people disagree, and how different groups tell their stories. You\u2019ll also learn how your own ideas, experiences, and choices fit into the bigger picture.<\/p>\n<p>Each module includes short activities, reflections, and a final project. You\u2019ll be able to show your learning in different ways\u2014writing, drawing, recording, creating slides, or another format that works for you. By the end, you\u2019ll understand more about how the world works and how you can make a difference in it.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Course Outline<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3>Start Here Module<\/h3>\n<p>In the Start Here module, you will complete a Citing Sources and Plagiarism Quiz, and a Bias paragraph.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Module 1 \u2014 Ideas &amp; Ideologies<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Big Idea:<\/strong>\u00a0Ideas can change the world.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll learn what ideologies are and how they influence people and societies. You\u2019ll look at past revolutions, modern movements, and ideas that matter to you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Final Project:<\/strong>\u00a0Explore and explain a movement you choose (such as Idle No More, Orange Shirt Day, or Black Lives Matter).<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Module 2 \u2014 Geography<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Big Idea:<\/strong>\u00a0The land shapes how we live.<\/p>\n<p>In this module, you\u2019ll learn about the geography of Canada, the land around you, and how people use natural resources. You\u2019ll also explore how Indigenous peoples lived on the land before contact and how those relationships changed.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>You will also practice writing a full persuasive essay<\/strong>\u00a0by researching a natural resource and forming your own opinion about how it should be used. This will help you build clear writing and argument skills.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Final Project:<\/strong>\u00a0Tell the story of one of Canada\u2019s landform regions.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Module 3 \u2014 Power &amp; Relationships<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Big Idea:<\/strong>\u00a0When power isn\u2019t shared fairly, relationships change.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll learn what power is, how it works in governments and communities, and how it affects people differently. You\u2019ll revisit your Module 1 movement to examine it through the lens of power and resistance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Final Project:<\/strong>\u00a0A project that shows different voices and perspectives in an issue involving power.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Module 4 \u2014 Identity &amp; Change<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Big Idea:<\/strong>\u00a0Identity isn\u2019t fixed\u2014it changes over time.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll explore what identity means for people, communities, and countries. You\u2019ll learn about missing voices in Canada\u2019s story, how migration shapes identity, and how youth influence change today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Final Project:<\/strong>\u00a0Research a current event and explain what\u2019s happening, why it matters, and how identity plays a role.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Optional Module \u2014 Democracy &amp; the Political Spectrum<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If you choose this extra module, you\u2019ll learn how democracy works, why people see issues differently, and how citizens make decisions together.
