Course Description:
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Have you wondered how professional photographers manage to capture that perfect image? Gain a better understanding of photography by exploring camera functions and the elements of composition while putting theory into practice by taking your own spectacular shots! Learn how to display your work for exhibitions and develop skills important for a career as a photographer.
In this course, there are 6 units.

Unit 1: Composition: What makes for a great photograph.

Unit 2: “Making” a Photograph: Exploring color, lights and the art of still life.

Grades in this course are assigned to different categories.
Assignments and Projects – 60%
Each module has a mix of assignments and larger projects

Personal Project – 20%
This is one large project that may require more effort, personal decisions, and more time to complete. Images have to be formally organized in a PowerPoint or Word document. An artist statement is required for this project.

Technical assignments – 10%
These are typically small projects that have to be completed in a short time frame, edited, and then uploaded.

Critiques – 10%
These are opportunities for students to share and give feedback on images in an online discussion format. An artist statement is required.

Equipment:
Ideally you are using a digital SLR for this class. Due to the diversity of cameras being used by students, there will be no camera specific training. However, you are required to download a user manual and encouraged to learn how to manipulate your camera.
This class can be completed with a phone camera.
