In this course, students gain the skills and knowledge to help develop their guitar “toolbox.” This is the ultimate beginners’ course covering everything from how to play, guitar anatomy, a history of the instrument and the basics of music theory.

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of guitar playing, music theory, and performance techniques. Through a series of structured modules, students will develop technical skills, musical literacy, and expressive abilities

Module 1: Foundations of Music and Guitar Basics

Module 2: Tuning and Open String Exercises

Module 3: Reading Guitar Tablature

Module 4: Performance Exercises

Module 5: First Performance Piece

Module 6: Composition & Creativity

Module 7: Performance and Expression

Module 8: Challenge Piece & Final Review

Final Exam: Performance Assessment

  • Practice & Participation – 30%
  • Theory & Written work – 30%
  • Performance – 30%
  • Final Exam – 10%

Required Resources: A computer with internet access, a microphone and headset, and a guitar.
