Media Visual Arts 11 offers knowledge on multimedia technologies and how they can be used to create art. This is an introductory class with a focus on easy-to-use technology. Students will need a computer that they can download software on and a camera (phone cameras are fine). The course is divided into four sections: 1) Sound design; 2) Videography 3) Animation; and 4) Photography. While there is some instruction on “how to” the emphasis in this class is making art. Students will create digital video, experiment with sound, animations, as well as photography.
The four big ideas of the course include the following:
- Media arts reflect the interconnectedness of the individual, community, history, and society.
- Growth as an artist is dependent on perseverance, resilience, refinement, and reflection.
- Artistic expression is an artist’s physical and cognitive articulation of our humanity.
- Media arts provide a unique way to represent self, identity, and culture.

1. Sound Design
|
In this unit you will learn about the basics of sound in the art industry. You will learn about music in film, ASMR in movies and then create your own.

2. Animation
|
In this unit you will use simple steps for creating an animation that incorporates storytelling and the principles of animation.

3. Photography
|
Media Art is the art of communicate a message though technology. You will learn to use visual elements, story telling techniques, and multimedia effects in order to create an illustration that will provoke a response from the viewer.

4. Video
|
Video, simply put, is telling a story by finding the right
sequence of pictures and words. You will learn about the impact of adding lighting, the power of color in film, and how to compose an image for maximum effect. As in all units, you will have an opportunity to create your own art based on the learning. |

- Photo Assignments – 60%

- Photo Critique Discussions – 10%

Required Resources: a computer with internet access and the capability to run PowerPoint, a phone that can take pictures or a camera
