WHAT IS COVERED IN THE COURSE:

Module 1: Precalculus 12 Review

  • Introduction to Calculus, Review of Functions, Graphing Calculators, Composition, Some Common Functions, Inverse Functions, Exponential & Logarithmic Functions

Module 2: Limits and Continuity

  • Introduction to Limits, Properties of Limits, Limits Involving Infinity, Continuity, Applications of Limits

Module 3: Differentiation

  • Introduction to Limits, Properties of Limits, Limits Involving Infinity, Continuity, Applications of Limits

Module 4: Applications of the derivative

  • Analyzing Functions Part I: Curve Sketching, Analyzing Functions Part II: Maximums and Minimums, Applied Maximum and Minimum Problems, Distance, Velocity, Acceleration and Rectilinear Motion, Related Rates, The Mean-Value Theorem

Module 5: Integration

  • Area Approximation and Riemann Sums, Introduction to the Definite Integral, The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, Integrals and Antiderivatives, Integration by Substitution, The Definite Integral

Module 6: Applications of Integrals

  • Finding the Area Under and Between Curves, Volume by Discs (Slicing), Volume by Shells, Work, Average Value of a Function and Rectilinear Motion Revisited

Module 7: Differential Equations and More Reimann Sums

  • Differential Equations – An Introduction, Initial Value Problems, Slope Fields, and Euler’s Method, Linearization and Newton’s Method, Numerical Approximation Methods with Integrals

Module 8: Supplemental Topics (No unit test)

  • Exploring the Graphs of f, f’, Relative Rates of Growth, Using Calculus With Data in a Table, Functions Defined By Integrals

ASSESSMENTS

HOW WILL YOU BE GRADED

Activation Assignment (Review of Pre-Calc 12)  5%

Each Module has:

  • Quizzes ( 1 or 2 per Module) done online in Brightspace – 5%
  • Module Test ( multiple choice/short answer with required written work upload) done online in Brightspace – 10%
  • Video Notes and Review Assignment Submission – scan and submit into Brightspace drop box – 5%
  • Midterm – 30% and Final Exam – 40% – both are in person supervised exams
  • Final Project – submission in Brightspace drop box – 5%

Required Resources: a computer with internet access and headphones/speakers in addition to a scientific calculator. GRAPHING CALCULATORS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO BE USED DURING EXAMS.
