English 11: New Media
This course has been designed to meet the requirements of the new English Language Arts 10-12 curriculum as outlined by the Ministry of Education. It is a 4 credit course that provides students with an English 11 credit. Yes, this course is the exact same as English 11, but the content and the methods of delivery differ when compared to the older versions of English 11.

Course Description
New Media 11 is a course designed to reflect the changing role of technology in today’s society and the increasing importance of digital media in communicating and exchanging ideas. Instead of using traditional novels and Shakespeare plays, this course seeks to use more modern forms of media to take a look at issues that are affecting today’s generation of youth. Through a study of documentaries, online videos, journal articles, TED talks, bimodal poetry and a variety of other examples of digital media, the students in New Media 11 will explore modern issues such as cyberbullying, gender identification, media bias and manipulation, environmental issues and an overall umbrella of how to find a sense of self in the modern technological age.
